Hey there!!

Proper fractions are those in which the denominator of the fraction is greater than the numerator.

 \frac{3}{1}  \: and \:  \frac{5}{4} are \: not \: proper \: fractions

As I told before, in these 2 fractions, the denominator is not greater than the numerator. We term these fractions as improper fractions.

 \frac{5}{9} is \: a \: proper \: fraction
