f(a) = 2a-1

f(b) = 2b-1

2a-1 = 2b-1

2a=2b

a=b

hence it's a one one function

now the function to be onto if at every range we have a defined domain

lets see

y = 2x-1

y is range of the function , x is the domain of the function

x = (y+1)/2

now see the domain and range are natural numbers

i.e. 1,2,3,4,..................so on

if we put y =2,4.6.8...........so on

lets take y =2

x = (2+1)/2 = 1.5 not a natural number

hence this is not an onto function
