Question:

A jar contains 24 marbles, some are green and other are blue. If a marble is drawn at random from a jar, the probability that it is green is \dfrac{2}{3} . Find the number of blue balls in the jar.

Solution:

Total number of outcomes = 24

Let there be x green marbles.

Therefore favourable number of outcomes = x

 \boxed{P(Any\: Event) = \dfrac{Number \: of \: favourable\: outcomes}{Number\: of \:total \:outcomes}}

 P(Green) = \dfrac{x}{24}

But  P(Green) = \dfrac{2}{3}

So,

 \dfrac{x}{24} = \dfrac{2}{3}

x = 16

Number of Green marbles = 16

Number of blue marbles = 24 - 16 = 8

Answer:

No of blue marbles is 8

Step-by-step explanation:

Question given,

A jar contains total of 24 marbels

Out of them some are green and others are blue

Let's assume total no of green marbles be X

and blue marbles be Y

Given,

Condition :- If a marble is drawn at random from jar the probability of green marble is  \frac{2}{3}

As, we know :-

Probability </em></strong><strong><em> </em></strong><strong><em>of an Event =   \frac{Number </em></strong><strong><em> </em></strong><strong><em> </em></strong><strong><em>of</em></strong><strong><em> </em></strong><strong><em>Favorable Outcomes}{Total Number of Possible Outcomes}

So, P(green) =  \frac{x}{24}

But condition given,

P (green) =  \frac{2}{3}

=>  \frac{x}{24}  =  \frac{2}{3}

=> x =  \frac{2}{3}  \times 24

=>  \frac{48}{3}

=> x = 16

So, no of green marbles is 16

Now, no.of blue marbles = Total no.of marbles - no.of green marbles

=> 24 - 16

=> 8
