x-y=2cosA
then
 {( \frac{2}{x + y} )}^{2}  +  {( \frac{x - y}{2} )}^{2}  - 1
=
 {( \frac{2}{2 \csc(a) } )}^{2}  +  {( \frac{2 \cos(a) }{2}) }^{2}  - 1
=
 {(\sin(a) )}^{2}  +  { (\cos(a) )}^{2}  - 1
=1-1=0...proved..
