Option (4) is right answer

5 years ago

age of Mr Dhuryodhana = 5x-5

age of Mr Dushyasana = 4x-5

ratio = (5x-5)/(4x-5).......(1)

when we put it equal to 4/3 or 4:3

then,

(5x-5)/(4x-5) = 4/3

3(5x-5) = 4(4x-5)

15x-15 = 16x-20

-15+20 = 16x-15x

5 = x

it is positive

so it is the ratio of their ages

simillarly

(5x-5)/(4x-5) = 3/2

2(5x-5) = 3(4x-5)

10x - 10 = 12x - 15

-12x-10x = -15 + 10

-22x = -5

x = 5/22

(5x-5)/(4x-5) = 9/7

7(5x-5) = 9(4x-5)

35x -35 = 36x -45

35x -36x = -45+35

-x = -10

x = 10

but by putting 8:7 equal to equation (1) we get -ve value of x

Hence 8:7 is not the ratio of their ages
