A. When acetic acid is made to react with a metal carbonate or a metal hydrogencarbonate it produces a salt , carbon dioxide and water.

For example, let’s take Na2CO3 and NaHCO3

Na2CO3 + 2CH3COOH ⇒ 2CH3COONa + CO2 + H2O

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH ⇒ CH3COONa + CO2 + H2O

B. Pass the gas into limewater (Ca(OH)2) solution, if it turns milky then the gas is CO2.
