Question:

Define distance and displacement

Explanation:

DistanceDistance is the measure of “how much ground an object has covered” during its motion .

Scalar quantity

SI unit -> meter

➡ distance is always positive

Displacement ➡It is the shortest distance between the initial point(motion starting point) and final point (motion ending point).

➡ displacement is vector quantity.

SI unit -> meter

Displacement may be positive , negative or also zero

A body covers a complete revolution around a circular field of circference 176 m in 4 minutes. find the displacement of the body after 6 minutes❓

➡ given,

distance covered = 176 m

time = 4 minutes,

in 4 minutes distance = 176m

in 1 minute distance = 176/4 m

in 6 minute distance = 176/4 × 6

total distance travelled = 264 m

now,

difference of total distance covered and circumference of field =  264 m - 176 m  = 88 m

Here,

we can see that ,

difference of both result =

1/2 circumference of circular field,

so,

we can see that,

the body covered half revolution after the full revolution of field.

displacement = diameter of the field

so,

given,

circumference = 176 m

2πr = 176

2 × 22/7 × r = 176

r = 176 × 7/44

r = 7 × 4

r = 28m

radius = 28 m

diameter = 2 × radius

= 2 × 28

diameter = 56 m

so,

displacement = diameter

so,

displacement of the body  = 56 meter
