Answer:

  • 3 ohm, 7 ohm and 10 ohm resistors are connected in parallel.
  • And the rest of the resistors are connected in series.

Hence, finding the net resistance im parallel connection –

1/Rp = 1/R1 + 1/(R2 + R3)

1/Rp = 1/10 + 1/(7+3)

[ We added 7 and 3 as the resistors of 7 ohm and 3 ohm are connected in series ]

1/Rp = 1/10 + 1/10

1/Rp = 2/10

Rp = 10/2

Rp = 5 ohm

Now, finding the net resistance in the series connection –

Rs = R1 + R2 + R3

Rs = 5 + 7 + 3

Rs = 15 ohm

QUESTION -

FIND THE EQUIVALENT RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE POINTS (X AND Y).

SOLUTION

Let us carefully observe the above diagram.

The three Ohm and the seven Ohm resistance are in series.

Net resistance between them = 10 Ohm.

Now this 10 Ohm and the other 10 Ohm are In parallel.

So, net resistance between them => ( 10 × 10 ) / ( 10 + 10 )

=> ( 100 / 20 ) ohm = 5 Ohm.

Now resistances between points X and Y -

The following resistances , 7 Ohm, 5 Ohm and 3 OHm are in series .

Hence,

Net resistance = 15 Ohm

ANSWER :

The net resistance between the points X and y is 15 Ohm.
