Let the age of Aishwarya be y and her daughter be x respectively.

According to the question:

==> 1/x + 1/y = 5/40

Also,

==> 1/x - 1/y = 3/40

Let 1/x = a and 1/y = b, Now

a + b = 5/40 ...(1)

a - b = 3/40 ...(2)

Adding (1) and (2)

==> a + b + a - b = 5/40 + 3/40

==> 2a = 8/40

==> 2a = 1/5

==> a = 1/10

Substituting value of a in (1)

==> a + b = 5/40

==> 1/10 + b = 5/40

==> b = 5/40 - 1/10

==> b = 5 - 4/40

==> b = 1/40

We took,

a = 1/x and b = 1/y

Now,

==> a = 1/x

==> 1/10 = 1/x

==> x = 10

Also,

==> b = 1/y

==> 1/40 = 1/y

==> y = 40

Hence, age of Aishwarya is 40 years and age of Aishwarya's daughter is 10 years.
