Answer:

1 sec

1/2 sec

Step-by-step explanation:

h = -16 t² +8t +8

gymnast to reach the ground => h = 0

=> -16 t² +8t +8 = 0

Dividing by - 8 both sides

=> 2t² - t - 1 = 0

=> 2t² -2t + t - 1 = 0

=> 2t(t - 1) + 1(t - 1) = 0

=> (2t + 1) (t - 1) = 0

=> t = 1

gymnast will take 1 sec to reach ground

When he gymnast be the 8 feet above the ground

=> -16 t² +8t +8 = 8

=> -16 t² +8t = 0

Dividing by - 8 both sides

=> 2t² - t = 0

=> t(2t - 1) = 0

=> t = 1/2

at t = 1/2 sec gymnast be the 8 feet above the ground
