As triangle ABD is 90° at angle A we'll use Pythagoras theorem.

(BD) ^2 = (AD) ^2 + (BA) ^2

(BD) = √(12) ^2 + (9) ^2

BD = √144 + 81

BD = 15 cm

Area of shaded region :

Area of circle - Area of rectangle

πr^2 - 2(l+b)

22/7 x 7.5 x 7.5 - 2(12+9)

176.78 - 42

134.78 cm^2
