Let A be the set of people who can speak Hindi.

Let B be the set of people who can speak Tamil.

Given,

Total number of people n(A U B) = 850.

Number of people who can speak Hindi n(A) = 600

Number of people who can speak Tamil n(B) = 350.

(1)

Number of people who can speak Hindi and Tamil n(A U B) = n(A) + n(B) - n(A int B)

= > 850 = 600 + 350 - n(A int B)

= > 850 = 950 - n(A int B)

= > n(A int B) = 100.

(2)

Number of persons who can speak only hindi = 600 - 100

                                                                              = 500.

(3) Number of persons who can speak only Tamil = 350 - 100

                                                                                    = 250.

Hope this helps!
