Given that A and B ages differ by 2 years.

A - B = 2 ---- (1)

Given that D is twice as old as A.

D = 2A ----- (2)

Given that B is twice as old as C.

B = 2C

C = B/2 ----- (3)

As u can see D is older than C and given that age of D and C differ by 40 years.

= > 2A - (B/2) = 40

= > (2A * 2) - B = 40 * 2

= > 4A - B = 80 ------ (2)

On solving (1) * 4 & (2), we get

= > 4A - 4B = 8

= > 4A - B = 80

--------------------

-3B = -72

B = 24.

Substitute B = 24 in (1),w e get

= > A - B = 2

= > A - 24 = 2

= > A = 26.

Therefore, the age of A = 26 years and the age of B = 24 years.

Hope this helps!
