mass of gun = 5 kg.

velocity of bullet = 500 m/s.

bullet weight = 10 g..

now, let the recoil velocity be v.

then,

total intial momentum = total final momentum.

Since, intially both gun and bullet at rest , their intial momentum is zero.

0 = 5v - (10/1000) × 500

5v = 5.

v = 1 m/s..

therefore, the recoil velocity is 1 m/s..
