1. 1/3 OF THE FRUITS IN A BAG IS BANANA, 3/8 OF THE REST IS MANGOES AND THE REMAINING 120 ARE ORANGES. HOW MANY FRUITS ARE IN THE BAG ALTOGETHER?


2.A FARMER HAS 840 COCOA SEEDLINGS IN HIS NURSERY, OUT OF WHICH 48 DIE. IF HE SOLD 4/9 OF THE REST, HOW MANY SEEDLINGS ARE LEFT IN THE NURSERY?

1.let total fruits be x

bananas are 1/3x, mangoes are 3/8(x-1/3x), oranges are 120

total fruits=1/3x+3/8x-1/8x+120

x =7/12x+120

x -7/12x=120

5/12x =120

x =120×12/5

total=288 fruits

2. let left seedlings are x.

840=48+4/9(840-48)+x

840-400=x

left seedlings=x=440
