Evaporation and condensation are two processes through which matter changes from one state to another. Matter can exist in three different states: solid, liquid or gas. In evaporation, matter changes from a liquid to a gas. In condensation, matter changes from a gas to a liquid.

By definition, evaporation is a process where water changes into vapour. Condensation is the opposite process where water vapour is converted to tiny droplets of water. Evaporation occurs before a liquid reaches its boiling point. Condensation is a phase change regardless of the temperature.

Condensation is the process where water vapor becomes liquid. It is the reverse of evaporation, where liquid water becomes a vapor. Condensation happens one of two ways: Either the air is cooled to its dew point or it becomes so saturated with water vapor that it cannot hold any more water.
