The given equation is

               2n^2 - 2n + 28 = 0

Dividing both sides by 2, we get

                     n^2 - n + 14 = 0          ..........(i)

Now the coefficient of n^2 is 1.

So multiplying 14 by 1, we get 14.

⇒ (14)(1) = 14

The possible factors of 14 =  1, 2, 7, 14

Now the coefficient of the middle term of expression (i) is  "-1"

So there is no way to have "-1" by adding or subtracting and "14" by multiplying any of the factors of 14 which are 1 ,2 ,4 and 7.

So this expression cannot be resolved by Splitting Method.

We have to go for Completing Square or Quadratic Formula.
