THE BLUE UMBRELLA

The story is set in a small village of Himachal Pradesh, where a little

girl, Binya, trades her old leopard claw necklace for a pretty, frilly

blue umbrella. In a village where the shopkeeper (Ram Bharosa)

who keeps an old ruined shop and sells warm Coca Cola bottles due

to no refrigerator and selling sweets to the school going kids as a

credit and regains his money as an axe and an earing etc .for him an

umbrella is a precious thing to have. The people in the village

become very fond of her umbrella. Soon the shopkeeper becomes

envious of the umbrella and tries to buy it from Binya but she

refuses.

As time passes by, Ram Bharosa's desire to get the umbrella also

increases. The schools get closed due to the arrival of the monsoon

and Ram Bharosa employs a boy from the next village named

Rajaram to work at the shop. When Rajaram comes to know about

his master's desire to own the umbrella, he offers to steal it for him.

The shopkeeper unable to gain control on his craving, accepts it.

Rajaram makes an attempt to steal the umbrella but fails and on

being caught, he gives Ram Bharosa's name. Now everyone stopped

coming to Ram Bharosa's shop. However, Binya realizes her mistake

and that she shouldn't have shown off her umbrella for now, due to

it, Ram Bharosa was suffering. In the end, Binya gives the umbrella

to Ram Bharosa, who returns her favor in future by gifting her a

necklace with a bear's claw.

Answer:

Set in a very Garhwal village of Himachal Pradesh, the story revolves around a bit girl, Binya. She belongs to a poor family and lives together with her brother, Bijju, and their mother.

The story starts with Binya, returning together with her cattle from the fields, witnessing some Japanese tourists from town enjoying a picnic within the valley. She is interested in their activities and particularly obsessed on a blue umbrella.

Seeing her innocent fascination with the umbrella, they arrange to interact with Binya. She contains a leopard-claw pendant round her neck and therefore the tourists attempt to barter the pendant for the umbrella.

Binya carries the umbrella home. She is so keen on its beauty that she rarely closes it and keeps it together with her all the time. the wonder of the blue umbrella soon becomes every villager’s favorite conversation topic. Everyone wants to carry it and Binya obliges with their request.

On the flipside, the gorgeous umbrella also becomes an obsession for some like Ram Bharosa, alittle grocery shop owner. He covers the umbrella and tries to shop for it from Binya to no avail. It causes a bit heartburn to Ram Bharosa but Binya’s decision is final.

Soon the monsoon arrives and also the rains bring the village school to an in depth. Ram Bharosa employs a young boy named Ramrajan in his shop. Trying to impress his employer, Ramrajan tries to steal the umbrella while Binya goes to gather porcupines from the forest.

However, he's caught by Bijju, her brother and fearing the worst, he takes Ram Bharosa’s name and thanks to his well-known obsession with the umbrella, everybody believes the lie. the full village stops visiting his shop and he falls into great misery.

Seeing the plight of Ram Bharosa, Binya feels sympathy for him so she asked Ram Bharosa to stay and went to look for a new umbrella she went and came back soon with a new umbrella for him and he gave a gift to her for her trouble.
