java is now famous as rice producing island County...first it was forest...the colonial power here were Dutch...kalangs are the skilled community of java who are forest cutters and shifting cultivators

as in india, the such enacted forest laws in java , restricting villagers' access to forest. now wood could only be cut for specified purpose like making river boat or constructing houses, and only from specific forest and under close supervision.
