Atomic mass : It is taken as the distance between the nucleus and the outermost shell of an atom.
Atomic radius increases on moving down a group and decreases across a period.

In modern periodi table, The siz of an atam is indicated by by its radius. Atomic radius is the distance between the nucleus of the atom and its outermost shell. Atomic radius is expressed in the unit picometer which is smaller than the nanometer. 1 pm = 10^-12.

Electron gain enthalpy is defined as the amount of energy released when an electron is added to an isolated gaseous atom. Sign Convention For Electron Gain Enthalpy is Negative. When energy is released while accepting an electron.

Shells are the no. of valence electron of an atom. ex. Hydrogen { 1 }. This means that tge hydrogen has 1 valence electron in the outermost shell. This is called Shell. K,L,M,N,O are shells. There are subshell also S,P,D,F and G are subshell.
Each subshell have maximum number of valence electron in the outermost shell.

There are total of 118 elements in the Modern Periodic Table. In this S block contains 2 group. They are Alkali and Alkaline Earth Metals. D block constituite group 3 to group 12, which has Transition elements. Group 13 to 18 constituite P block contains some metals, all metalloid, and all non metal. The 17 group are called Halogen family and 18 group are called Noble Gases also called Inert gases. There is a block constituite in the bottom of modern periodic table, they are Lanthanide and Actinide series ehich constituite F block.

Mendeleev arranged the element in the order of their increasing Atomic Masses. In Modern Periodic Table, elements are arranged in the order of their increasing atomic number.

There are scientist who had put forth their theories on it. Among them, a German Scientist Dobereiner suggested that properties of element are related to their atomic masses. Example, Li, Na, K
Lithium has a atomic mass 6.9 and potassium has a atomic mass of 39.1 . Thus, we can solve it by adding it and divide by 2.

6.9+39.1÷ = 23.0

Therefore, Sodium mass is 23. But in some situation this theory fails.Example

F, Cl and Br.

Flourine has a atomic mass of 18.99 and Bromine has a atomic mass of 79.90. After addind and divide by 2. We need to find chlorine's atomic mass, which is 35.45.

79.90+18.99÷2 = 49.44. Which is not equal to 35.45 therefore, by this dobereiner's Triad theory had been proved wrong.

By this there are many theories.

There are many things in modern periodic table.
