Best Answer

K + H2O ------------> KOH + H2

--------------------------------------...

Look to see how many you have on each side -

Reactants / Products

K = 1 / K= 1

H = 2 / H= 3

O= 1 / O= 1

Everything is balanced besides the H.

Start by adding coefficient 2 to H2O

K + 2H2O ----------> KOH + H2

Recheck:

K = 1 / K= 1

H = 4 / H= 3

O= 2 / O= 1

Now add 2 to KOH ---

K + 2H2O ----------> 2KOH + H2

Recheck:

K = 1 / K= 2

H = 4 / H= 4

O= 2 / O= 2

Now all you have to do to balance is add a coefficient 2 to K

2K + 2H2O ----------> 2KOH + H2

Recheck:

K = 2 / K= 2

H = 4 / H= 4

O= 2 / O= 2
