Answer:

Given,

∆PQR ,in which XY// QR, XY intersects PQ and PR atX and Y.

To prove :

PX/XQ=PY/YR

Construction:

join RX and QY,draw YN perpendicular to PQ and XM perpendicular to PR

Proof:

ar(∆ PXY)= 1/2( PX×YM)----------(1)

ar ( ∆ PXY)=1/2( PY×XM)------------(2)

ar ( ∆ RXY) = 1/2(RY×XM)-------------(3)

ar ( ∆ QXY) =1/2(QX×NX)---------:::;(4)

DIVIDING 1 AND 3,

we get , ar(∆PXY). PX

----------------- = ----------. → (5)

ar(∆QXY). QX

DIVIDING 2 BY 3,

ar (∆PXY). PY

---------------- =. -------. →(6)

ar(∆RXY). RY

since ar (∆QXY) AND ar ( ∆(RXY) ARE EQUAL

THEREFORE,. PX. PY

--------. = -------

XQ. YR

HENCE PROVED..

HOPE IT HELPS........
