Question :

  • Solve the following given pair of linear equations
  • 2x + 3y = 9
  • 4x + 9y = 7

Answer :

We will use elimination method ,

  • 2 × ( 2x + 3y = 9 )
  • 4x + 6y = 9

Now subtract equation 1 from equation 2 ,

  • 4x + 9y = 7
  • 4x + 6y = 9
  • - - -
  • 3y = -2
  • y = \sf\dfrac{-2}{3}

Now substitute the value of y in any one equation ,

  • 2x + 3 × \sf\dfrac{-2}{3} = 9
  • 2x - 2 = 9
  • 2x = 9 + 2
  • 2x = 11
  • x = \sf\dfrac{11}{2}
