Answer:

Substitution method

1)x+y=5--eq1 ; 2x-y=4--eq2

x+y=5-->x=5-y

Substitute x=5-y in eq2

2x-y=4

2(5-y)-y=4

10-2y-y=4

10-3y=4

(-3y)=4-10

(-3y)=(-6)

3y=6

y=6/3

y=2

Substitute y=2 in eq1

x+y=5

x+2=5

x=5-2

x=3

Elimination method

2)x+y=7--eq1 ; x-y=1--eq2

Add eq1 and eq2, we get

2y=6

y=6/2

y=3

Substitute y=3 in eq2

x-y=1

x-3=1

x=1+3

x=4
