It was Antony Van Leeuwenhoek (1632-1723), who in the late 17th century became the first man to make and use a real microscope.
 He made his own simple microscopes, which had a single lens and were hand-held.

A magnifying glass (called a hand lens in laboratory contexts) is a convex lens that is used to produce a magnified image of an object. The lens is usually mounted in a frame with a handle.

difference Between mirror and magnifying glass

MIRROR-a surface, typically of glass coated with a metal amalgam, which reflects a clear image.

MAGNIFYING GLASS-a lens that produces an enlarged image, typically set in a frame with a handle and used to examine small or finely detailed things such as fingerprints and fine print.

The differencesbetween mirror and magnifying glass are as follows :-

1) Mirror implies a glass surface with a silvery backing, that produces image through reflection.

A magnifying glass is a transparent substance of glass or plastic, bound by two surfaces, whose at least one surface is curved.

2) It can be flat or curved.

It is usually curved, with one or both side.
