Required Answer:-

The above diagram shows a setup of experimenting the displacement reactions taking place between the metals based on their reactivities.

Given Question:

d) He then places some copper into a solution of sodium chloride. No reaction takes place. Give a reason for this.

Reason Why?

  • Sodium comes above copper in the metal reactivity series which means Sodium is more reactive than copper.
  • Hence, Copper can't displace Sodium from its salt solution i.e. sodium chloride.
  • Thus, There will be no reaction taking place and no changes observed.
