   Alternate interior angles are always equal.

   Therefore, angle y is = 110 degree

   y + x = 180 degree

   110 + x = 180

   x= 180-110

   x = 70 degree

2) angle x = 55

   This is because angle w (55) and x are opposite angles. Opposite angles       are always equal.

This tells us that angles y and z are also equal

Angle y and z = a (assuming)

In the following figure, the sum of angles should be 360 degrees, since it is a full circle.

Therefore, w +x+y+z = 360

                  55 +55+a+a= 360

                  110 +2a =360

                  2a = 360 -110

                  2a = 250

                  a = 250 / 2

                  a = 125

Thus angle y = 125
