ANSWER:-

Let x be the current of total circuit.

So, x =total V /total R

x=10/2k+R

Current (across R)= 4/R

We know in the series combination current remains same

So,

total current =current(across R

So, 10 /2k+R=4/R

By solving this :-we get

6R=8k

R=8k/6. -(eq-1)

We know,

Current (across R )= 4/R

so,P(across R)=VI(across R)

P= 4*4/R

P=16/R

P=16/8k/6. (by eq--1)

P=96/8k

we know( k=10^3)

so, P=96/8*10^3

So, P=12/10^3

so,P= 12 * 10^-3

P= 12mW
