Let

i ) x = 0.3 bar

x = 0.3333.....----( 1 )

Multiply ( 1 ) with 10

10x = 3.3333..........( 2 )

Subtract ( 1 ) from ( 2 ) we get

9x = 3

x = 3/ 9 ----( 3 )

ii ) let y = 0.4 bar

y = 0.44444.......( 4 )

Multiply ( 4 ) with 10

10y = 4.4444......( 5 )

Subtract ( 4 ) from ( 5 ) we get

9y = 4

y = 4/ 9 ----------( 6 )


According to the problem ,

0.3 bar + 0.4 bar

= 3/ 9 + 4/ 9

= ( 3 + 4 )/9

= 7/ 9

Therefore ,

Required sum is 7 /9

multiplying both side with 10 we get
10x=2.2222..... (2)
subtracting eq. (1)from (2) we get
9x=2
x=2/9
now,
x=0.3bar(3)
10x=3.3..... (4)
subtracting eq.(3) from (4) we get
9x=3
x=3/9
similarly we get
4/9 and5/9
by adding all the above
2/9+3/9+4/9+5/9
we get,
14/9.
