Please tell me the meaning of "Refractive index" and also give me refractive index of diamond and kerosene

Refractive index is the ratio of speed of light in vacuum and the speed of light in the medium which you have taken.The refractive index of diamomd is 2.42 and the refractive index of kerosene is 1.44
