Hey friend !!
Here is your answer..,,
First of all maths is all about understanding and there is nothing like trick.
Now, understand the meaning of Both L.C.M and H.C.F.
L.C.M :- ( Least Common Multiple )
- It is the smallest and common multiple that is present in the two or more number.
For example..
==>>
If we have to find L.C.M of 15 and 20
15 = 15,30,45,60,75,90,105,120....
20 = 20,40,60,80,100,120....
- As here 60 and 120 both are the common multiple between 15 and 20 number.
- But we have to take least or small multiple,
so 60 is the L.C.M of 15 and 20.
H.C.F :- ( Highest Common Factor )
- It is the largest and common factor of two or more numbers.
- Find all factor of that given numbers and then find largest common factor between them.
For example,
==>>
H.C.F of 42 and 28
42 = 7,6,2,3,1,42,21,14
28 = 7,2,1,28,4,28,14
- Here we can see 7 ,1 ,2 and 14 are the common factor of the given numbers.
- But according to definition we have to take largest or greater factor so, 14 is the H.C.F of 42 and 28.
Now, How can we know that when we have to find H.C.F or L.C.M
- When question asks for multiple of that numbers than we have to find L.C.M
- Multiple are infinitely many of the numbers but we have ti just take smallest multiple as answer.
- Key words :- smallest , least or minimum
And when question asks for the factor of that numbers then we have to find. H.C.F
- Factors are not infinitely many they are few.
- key words :- greater, largest or maximum.
Hope it helps you..
Thanks. ^-^

Trick ==> when you think that larger value is asked that the given numbers, go for LCM.
