1  \frac{1}{4}  + 1 \frac{1}{4}  \\  =  \frac{5}{4}  +  \frac{5}{4}   \\

both having equal denominator,so no need to find the L.C.M

 \frac{10}{4}  \\  =  \frac{5}{2}
