Multiply with 10 on both sides

=> 10x = 9.99 -----------(2)


(2) - (1)


10x = 9.99
- x = 0.99

x = 9/9

x = 1/1

$x = 0.999... \\ 10x = 9.999.... \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = 0.999.... + 9 \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = x + 9 \\ 10x = x + 9 \\ 10 - x = 9 \\ 9x = 9 \\ x = \frac{9}{9} = 1$
so in p/q form 0.999... is 1
