x
=180- ( 40+40)

= 180-80

= 100

[ base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal and by angle sum property x = 100]

x + (the adjacent angle) = 180°

[ linear pair]

Let that adjacent angle be a

a
= 180 - x

= 180 - 100

= 80°

y
= 180-(80 + 80)

= 180- 160

= 20°

[ base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal and by angle sum Property y = 20°

hope it helps
