Given:

Pencil cost Rs 96 per score

Ball pen cost Rs 50.40 per dozen

To find:

Ratio of price of pencil to price of ball pen = ?

Solution:

1 score = 20 units

1 dozen = 12 units

1 score pencil cost Rs 96

20 pencils cost Rs 96

1 pencil cost Rs 96×1/20 = Rs 4.8

______________________________________

1 dozen ball pen cost Rs 50.40

12 ball pens cost Rs 50.40

1 ball pen cost Rs 50.40×1/12 = Rs 4.2

 \\  \dfrac{ Ratio \: of  \: price \: of \: \: pencil }{ Ratio \: of \:price \: of \:  ball \: pen}  =  \dfrac{4.8}{4.2}  \\  \\  =  \dfrac{48}{42}  \\  \\  =  \dfrac{8}{7}

Required answer:

Thus, the ratio of price of pencil to that of price of ball pen is 8:7

Knowledge Booster:

# We can find price of things by unitary method ( cross multiply)

10 chocolate = Rs 10

1 chocolate = 10 × 1/ 10 = Rs 1
