To find :

the distance travelled by the car in those 20 min

Given :

  • speed for first 10 min = 20 km/h
  • speed for another 10 min = 40 km/h

Average speed of car :

as the car travelled for the same time with both speed.

hence, Average speed

= 20+40/2

= 30 km/h

Formula to be applied:

  • distance = speed × time

Solution :

20 min = 1/3 hours

hence, distance = 30 × 1/3

so, distance = 10 km

the car travelled 10 km

Answer:

Required Question :

A bus movea with a speed of 20km/h for 10 min and then with a speed 40km/h for next 10 min. Calculate the total distance covered by the bus.

\begin{gathered}\end{gathered}

Given :

  • ➝ Speed of bus 20km/h for 10 min.
  • ➝ Speed of bus 40km/h for 10 min.

\begin{gathered}\end{gathered}

To Find :

  • ➝ Total distance covered by the bus.

\begin{gathered}\end{gathered}

Using Formulas :

{\longrightarrow{\underline{\boxed{\sf{Distance = Speed \times  Time}}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\underline{\boxed{\sf{Total \:  distance = d_{1} +  d_{2}}}}}}

\begin{gathered}\end{gathered}

Solution :

Case 1 :-

Finding the distance covered by bus at speed of 20km/h for 10 min. But before finding the distance, we need to convert the time in hour.

  • 1 min = 1/60 hour

So, converting the 10 min into hour.

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time = 10 \: min}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time =  \dfrac{10}{60}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time =  \cancel{\dfrac{10}{60}}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time =  \dfrac{1}{6} \: hour}}}

  • Hence, the time is 1/6 hour.

Now, finding the distance.

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = Speed \times  Time}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = 20 \times   \dfrac{1}{6}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = \dfrac{20}{6}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = \cancel{\dfrac{20}{6}}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance =  \dfrac{10}{3} \: km}}}

\bigstar \: {\red{\underline{\boxed{\sf{Distance =  \dfrac{10}{3} \: km}}}}}

  • Hence, the distance covered by bus in 10 min is 10/3 km.

Case 2 :-

Finding the distance covered by bus at speed of 40km/h for 10 min. But before finding the distance, we need to convert the time in hour.

  • 1 min = 1/60 hour

So, converting the 10 min into hour.

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time = 10 \: min}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time =  \dfrac{10}{60}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time =  \cancel{\dfrac{10}{60}}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Time = \dfrac{1}{6} \: hour}}}

  • Hence, the time is 1/6 hour.

Now, finding the distance.

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = Speed \times  Time}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = 40 \times  \dfrac{1}{6}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = \dfrac{40}{6}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance = \cancel{\dfrac{40}{6}}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Distance =  \dfrac{20}{3} \: km}}}

\bigstar \: {\red{\underline{\boxed{\sf{Distance =  \dfrac{20}{3} \: km}}}}}

  • Hence, the distance covered by bus in 10 min is 20/3 km.

 \rule{300}{1.5}

Now, finding the total distance covered by bus :-

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Total \:  distance = d_{1} +  d_{2}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Total \:  distance =  \dfrac{10}{3}  +  \dfrac{20}{3}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Total \:  distance =  \dfrac{10 + 20}{3}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Total \:  distance =  \dfrac{30}{3}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Total \:  distance =  \cancel{\dfrac{30}{3}}}}}

{\longrightarrow{\sf{Total \:  distance = 10 \: km}}}

\bigstar\:{\red{\underline{\boxed{\sf{Total \:  distance = 10 \: km}}}}}

  • Hence, the total distance covered by the bus is 10 km.
