for example-- >

magnesium+ HCl-------> magnesium chloride+ hydrogen

we can test the presence of hydrogen gas in the test tube with the following activity

bring a lighten matchstick near the mouth of the test tube containing a piece of magnesium ribbon and hydrochloric acid ,the gas produce a burn with a pop sound , showing that it is a hydrogen gas

4)the metal must be calcium and the acid be hydrochloric acid. the equation is as follow

calcium+ HCl-------> calcium chloride+ hydrogen
