Hey user, your answer goes like:-

Draw F G || A B such that AB =FG=4cm
In triangle F G E,
AF+FG=AE
=>FG=6-2=4cm
Area = 1/2×4×4
=>8 cm^2
In rectangle ABFG,
Area=4×2=8 cm^2
Area of Quadrilateral AEFB= 8+8=16 cm^2

Hence option (b) 16 cm^2 is correct.
