Shloka:
तस्य पुत्रः प्रियो जयेष्ठस्ताराधिपनिभाननः।
रामो नाम विशेषज्ञ श्रेष्ठः सर्वधनुष्मताम्॥
Meaning of Shloka:
Lord Rama was the eldest son of King Dasharath. He was beloved having a beatiful moon like face. He knew the distinction among humans and others. He was one of the excellent archer among the wielders of bow.
Word Meanings:
Referring to the अकारान्त पुल्लिङ्ग् "तद्" शब्द, the word तस्य means "belongs to him" or "his". The word पुत्रः means "son". But, the "son" refers to Lord Ram as told in the second line of the shloka. We know Lord Ram is the son of King Dasharatha. So, "तस्य पुत्रः" means "his son" where "तस्य" refers to King Dasharatha and "पुत्रः" refers to Lord Ram. The word "प्रियः" means "beloved". The word "जयेष्ठः" means "the eldest". The word "ताराधिप निभाननः" describes the beauty of Lord Ram. It says, Lord Ram had a face like moon. The word "विशेषज्ञ" means knowing distinctions (between human and others). The word "श्रेष्ठः" means excellent and the word " सर्वधनुष्मताम्" means, "among the weilders of bow"
Grammar:
The word ज्येष्ठस्तारधिप is formed by the composition (संधिः) of two words ज्येष्ठः and ताराधिप. This type of composition in Sanskrit is called विसर्ग संधिः
ज्येष्ठस्तारधिप = ज्येष्ठः + ताराधिप
