hey mate

given here

x-y=5. ...(1)

xy = 24. ...(2)

by (1)

x= 5+y. ...(3)

put in (2)

we get

(5+y)y= 24

=>y²+5y-24=0

=>y²+8x-3x-24=0

=>y(y+8)-3(x+8)=0

=>(y+8)(y-3)=0

(y+8)=0. or (y-3)=0

y= -8 or y=3

by (3)

if y = 3

then ,x= 3+5

=>x= 8

if y= -8

then

x= 5-8

x= -3

thus :--

if y= -8,x= -3

so,

x+y= -8-3

= -11

and,

if y= 3, x= 8

so,

x+y= 3+8

= 11

i hopes its help's u
