One of the flower, Jasmine (C) is planted and reproduced by the process of vegetative propagation known as Layering.

  • As the name says, Layering is a process by which one of the branch is layered on to the soil which leads to the development of roots while the stem is still attached to the parent plant is called layering.

  • A layer is the rooted stem following removal from the parent plant.

Types:

Basically there are two types of Layering practices which is commonly performed even in our gardens. They are:

  • Mound layering
  • Air Layering

Plants like Jasmine are grown by this process. Mound layering is mainly preferred in plants with flexible branches (i.e. abundance of collenchyma).
