Visakhapatnam is a port city and industrial center in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, on the Bay of Bengal. It's known for its many beaches, including Ramakrishna Beach, home to a preserved submarine at the Kursura Submarine Museum. Nearby are the elaborate Kali Temple and the Visakha Museum, an old Dutch bungalow housing local maritime and historical exhibits.

Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam or Vizag, as it is often called, rid itself of the overtly English name Waltair and adopted Vizagapatnam shortly after Independence and later became Visakhapatnam in 1987. The third largest city on the east coast (after Chennai and Kolkata), Vizag's folklore suggests that the name comes from a Lord Visakeswara temple established by an Andhra Dynasty king. Also Vizagapatanam is shortened as Vizag, thus the two names Visakhapatnam and Vizag came into use.
