Kerala's 2018 Flood
Flood is a devastating disaster. Recently, Kerala ( A Southernmost State of India ) had experienced flood. It is said this is the ever devastating flood after 1924 and this is more than that. There are total 14 districts in Kerala and almost all 14 district got alert of Flood and experienced. Over 12.5 Lakhs of people have been evacuated form their house and moved to flood relief camps. The loss in which the state experiences is of about Rs. 20,000 Crores and almost 400 people died. Most of houses and buildings were destroyed. People almost became helpless. This flood had almost drowned a 3 - storeyed building under water
This flood also shows the disadvantages of dams ( in which CBSE Class 10 Students can study in their geography Textbook ). Only very few places gets affected by flood by raining in Kerala. The reason for flood in Kerala is only dams. 33 out of 42 dams in Kerala were left open which led to flood. The places which were affected badly is Pandanad, Aluva, Kuttanad. Most of these places were affected because of opening of Idukki dam , Mullaperiyar dam and Pampa Dams. We can see that the places which were affected badly mostly were river banks.
The flood has taught some lessons to people here, this flood made unity among people. There were castes, religion, rich or poor problems. But this flood had erased all these.
There is a another reason behind this flood. Most of the people were supporting the entry of women to Sabarimala were Lord Ayyapa stays. It is said that Lord Ayyapa didnt like about the entry of women above 10 years and below 60 years and he showed his anger, which is proof from The River Pampa. This river had almost drowned shabarimala under water and also all its river banks and The irony is that now there is no devotees in Shabarimala.
About Rescue operations :
Rescue operations were going well on. Army, Fisherman and RSS workers played a major role in rescue operations. The only problems were they faced was inappropiate weather conditions and discouragement of people, Many people denied leave their house and go to relief camps with rescuers.
