 Given \: a + b = 9 \: ---(1) \: and

 ab = 4 \: --(2)

 Value \: of \: a^{2} + b^{2}

 = ( a + b )^{2} - 2ab

 = 9^{2} - 2 \times 4

 = 81 - 8

 = 73

Therefore.,

 \red{ Value \: of \: a^{2} + b^{2}}\green { = 73 }
