if the displacment in the body is in the direction of applied force then work is positive and when the displacement in the body is in oposite direction to applied force then work is negetive eg when we slide a troller bag then work done by us is positive but by friction force is negetive

Work can be either positive or negative:

If the force has a component in the same direction as the displacement of the object, the force is doing positive work.

Eg-Work done because of the force exerted to lift a block.

If the force has a component in the direction opposite to the displacement, the force does negative work.

Eg- When you jump, work done by gravity is negative
