The graph between the angle of incidence 'i' and the angle of deviation 'δ' is attached for reference.

It is found experimentally that the angle of deviation decreases till it reaches a minimum value and then it increases. The least value of angle of deviation is called the angle of minimum deviation.

At the angle of minimum deviation, the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of emergence.

i = e and  r₁ =r₂

⇒ i = (A + δ) /2
