For plotting points on graph paper you are usually given the coordinates of that point, for ex-

(1,2) , (-5,2) etc

In your question

Point no. 1 to be marked, it's coordinates given are:

(-5,2)

here -5 is actually the distance between y axis and the point.

and 2 is the distance of X axis from the point.

It is very complicated to understand by this so Here is the

TRICK

you have to see -5 as distance from 0 in XX' and once you got that -5 in the line raise it to 2 blocks up there will be your point (-5,2)

similarly, in coordinates (1,2)

put your pen on the 1 of the XX' (X axis) and then raise it 2blocks up there will be your point (1,2)
