The position-time graph.

  • This is a graph in which the position of a particle is plotted against the y-axis and time along the x-axis this is called a position-time graph.
  • The principle is that the slope of the line on a position-time graph reveals useful information about the velocity of the object.
  • The velocity can be either constant velocity motion or accelerated motion.

a) two objects moving with equal velocities:

  • In this graph, the velocity of two objects runs parallel to each other and is increasing at a constant rate.
  • The graph is depicted in image 1

b) Two objects with unequal velocities, showing the time of the meeting.

  • Since the objects are moving with unequal velocity therefore they won't run parallel to each other.
  • The velocity graph intersects at a position at a particular time.
  • The graph is depicted in picture 2.

c) Two objects with velocities in opposite directions, showing the time of the meeting.

  • In this case, the two objects have velocity in the opposite direction, therefore, one of the velocities will be having a negative slope and the other will be having a positive slope and they even interact at a position at a particular time.
  • The graph is depicted in picture 3.
