1. S = {1,2,3,4,5,6}

n(S) = 6

the multiples of 2

A = {2,4,6}

n(A) = 3

P(A) = n(A)/n(S) = 3/6 = 1/2

2. n(S) = 52

Let A be the event of getting a spade

n(A) = 13

P(A) = n(A)/n(S) = 13/52 = 1/4

Let B be the event of getting a diamond

n(B) = 4

P(B) = n(B)/n(S) = 4/52 = 1/13

P(A and B) = 1/52 ('A and B' refers to comman elements)

P(A U B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)

= 18/52 = 9/26

3. S = {1,2,3,4,5,6}

n(S) = 6

Let A be the event of getting odd prime numbers

A = {3,5}

n(A) = 2

P(A) = n(A)/n(S) = 2/6 = 1/3

4.n(S) = 52

Let A be the event of getting a red 6

n(A) = 2

P(A) = n(A)/n(S) = 2/6 = 1/3

Let B be the event of getting a red 8

n(B) = 2

P(B) = n(B)/n(S) = 2/6 = 1/3

There is no common elements in A and B

P(A U B) = P(A) +P(B)

= 2/3

5. S = {HH, TT, HT, TH}

n(S) = 4

Let A be the event of getting exactly two tails

A ={TT}

n(A) = 1

P(A) = n(A)/n(S) = 1/3
