Answer:

a. atomic no. of X= no. of proton=8

b. mass no. of X= no. of proton +no. of neutron

=8+10

=18.

c. it has 6 electrons in it's valence or outermost shell

K L

2 6

d. valency of X is 2

e. X is a non metal as it gains 2 electrons and is electro negative

(a) Atomic number = Number of proton present in an atom = 8 protons

(b)Mass number = Number of (Proton + Neutron) in an atom = 8 + 10 = 18

(c)Valence Electron = Number of electrons present in outer most shell = 6

(d)Valency = Combining (Gaining or Losing) capacity of an atom to complete it's outer most shell(In this case to complete it's octet) = 6 + 2 = 8

Therefore, the Valency = 2

(e) This is a nonmetal, Because the number of electrons present in the outer most shell are 6

(If the no. of electron present in outer most shell are either 1,2,3 Then that element is metal of the no. of electron are either 5,6,7 Then that element is non metal)
